One of our favorite parts of 12 South are the many murals that have popped up over the last few years. Whether you're looking for the perfect content to post on your Instagram Feed, or just wanting to see the sights as you stroll around (with a treat from Christie Cookies, 5 Daughter's Donuts or Jeni's ice cream in your hand no doubt!), you can find many incredible murals within just a few blocks of The Carriage House! The artist has painted a few more of these around town, but our neighborhood proudly boasts the original of the murals. WELCOME TO MUSIC KITTY
2315 12th Ave S, Nashville, TN 37219 (on the North-facing side of the former home of TRIM Classic Beauty) Painted in the fall of 2019, this mural is the result of a partnership between the Nashville Zoo at Grassmere multimedia designer Kate Sarber Johns and mural artist NeverXtinct. The mural celebrates the Sumatran tiger exhibit at the Zoo and hopes to bring awareness to the plight of this endangered species while simultaneously celebrating the culture of Nashville. We are hardcore about our beloved Predators (or the "Preds") so it's only fitting that this giant rendering of their mascot Nash keeps watch over the 12 South section of "Smashville" as the locals call it. My toddler is particularly obsessed with this mural and frequently walks to see "da BIIIIGGGGGG kitty cat picture" and once there, likes to yell "ROAR" and giggle. You can roar and giggle too. This mural is unsigned, but a deep dive of internet world gives credit to California artist "The Hyste." Head inside Marine Layer and you'll find a bonus mini mural "Oh Hey." ASTRONAUT
www.edieottestad.com 1206 Dallas Ave, Nashville, TN 37212 (on the side of the brick duplex facing the Pure Sweat Sauna Studio parking lot) This guy landed in our neighborhood Fall of 2020 and we think he's out of this world. It was fun to walk buy and watch the artist paint on her scaffold and he brings cheer and whimsy to anyone who sees him. He's also located directly across from the alley that leads to the Carriage House Front door so he's the closest stop on the mural tour. If you visit, please remember that he's painted on the side of a private residence so keep the homeowners in mind as you enjoy the view. However, there is plenty of primo camera angles from the Pure Sweat Sauna parking lot so you can easily enjoy the view without trespassing. @edieottestad |
